I neglected Nanonovel for too long. I can’t get into it anymore. ;;_;; Well at least I have this not-quite-dream-but-I-was-in-bed-thinking-about-it thing that’s…kinda far off. It plays on the depressing ending actually, and…
I should just write this instead of ranting about it. ~smacks self~ I really think I lost my brain over the weekend. Maybe it’s a side effect from being away from the computer/Intarweb so long. ;;_;;
…I’m a little too obsessed with the iTunes store. ~slaps self~
Dammit, DestinZfaith, stop. ~twitch~ The problem is that buying music makes me happy. ><;;
There was a point where I was afraid it was 2D. But thankfully, it’s not. =DDDD (And anyway, why would III be 2D when II was 3D? Silly, silly me.)
(I couldn’t find Soul Caliber II, so I contented myself with III.)
Oh, and momo? When I said I didn’t like fighting games. I lied. (but not intentionally! 8D;;) I actually dislike 2D fighting games. I’ve wanted to get Soul Caliber II ever since we played it at the arcade, ^^;;
Ivy’s hotter in II. ~sigh~ Oh well! Ivy! =DD
But despite my love for Ivy, the character I actually pwn with is Xianghua. (Go figure.) I once manged to beat Abyss with Perfect. o_o;;; (Perfect is where I beat him without once getting hit. On the other hand, the opponent’s perfect is when your opponent beats you without your landing a hit.)
It came recommended by pspfanboy, and while shopping for my video games, every time I saw this title, I twitched. 8D;; But I finally got it. And it’s awesome. ~wants to neglect Nanonovel to go play~
You get to name the main character. And I named him Sora. xD;;; (Aptly, as it turns out, because his Lightspark bravura so looks like a Keyblade beam attack. Seriously.) Except I made a mistake in the naming and added three spaces after it, so whenever one of the other characters mention him, there’s a big gap in between his name and the rest of the sentence…x);;
…And he’s playing on his PSP. Win! I bet he’s playing Crisis Core.
Voices: (with off-topic things along because I can never keep to a single subject)
There’s an option to switch the battle voices to Japanese language. Score! Tatsuya’s voice annoys me in both versions (>_>;;) but the Japanese-language one sounds familiar. I think it may be Takeuchi Junko. (The credits don’t say). But then again, why would they bother getting so many VAs for so little voiced scenes? Possible there’e only one or two of each gender doing the voicing.
Yuno’s Japanese voice is cute, but the English one annoys the fuck out of me (big surprise there. -_- One of these days, I’d like to voice casters realize that since high voices are [somewhat?] cute in Japan, but not in US, and cast cute voices to cute-and-high Japanese voices, instead of making them freakishly high).
Sogreth’s doesn’t really remind me of anything. ^^;; Sogreth is likeable enough, but his is the type of character I tend to ignore. =_= And despite his high attack rating, his is the type I don’t tend to use in battles; namely, the tends-to-use-an-axe/high attack-low agility ones. (I didn’t touch the axe-wielders at all in Jeanne D’Arc…) Which is weird, because when it comes to it, I pimp the attack rating like crazy. But this game is a bit different; I like the agility rating. Anyway, Sogreth’s voice is one of those scratchy ones that I don’t tend to remember.
All through Meladee’s dialogue, I kept imagining her voice. And when I finally got her to battle, it didn’t disappoint! =DD It’s as sexy as I imagined it. <33333
Mitsuru...is hot. When he (she? o_O;; I thought he was a boy at first, b-but the chest...! But after looking at the Brave Story movie snippets, he sounds very much like a boy) speaks/grunts/hi-yah! in battle, his voice is reminiscent of either Paki Romi or the seiyuu of Hao (Shaman King). Doesn't sound at all like his movie version, which I attribute to the seiyuus maybe not appearing in this game, where there is so little voiced stuff.
There's are certain points where Ropple sounds like Akira Ishida. But it's not. Anyway, I got tired of using Ropple, because his attack isn't that high (well, he's a mage...)
Gameplay:
It’s turn-based. And when the characters attack, all sorts of interesting SFX text comes up. xD;; I didn’t really notice them at first, actually. People get amused at this, but for some reason it didn’t even faze me. ._.
The extra attack thing is awesome, but sometimes I had trouble timing it so that my lower-level characters got the extra, for more EXP. Doesn’t really bother me as much, anymore, partly because they’re at the level for a couple of extra EXP doesn’t really make a diff.
Every time they attack, the attack animation chooses randomly from a set of set attack animations! Tatsuya’s and Yuno’s are a bit similar, but for me it was most apparent in Meladee. There’s one where she attacks with her swords together, one where she slices up, and then across, and another one I forgot. But this little feature is >3>
…and I should stop and go Nanonovel now. ;;_;;
So I bought Brave Story: New Traveler for the PSP…and then while I was out shopping (okay, I was actually just tagging along because I was bored), I spotted a Brave Story anime! =OO It (the art, I mean) looked great. I wanna see it.
Liar! You just want to watch it for Mitsuru!
Well…yes, that is true. ~runs away~ But the PSP game focuses on Tatsyua, who is presumably a new character? Anyway, the anime (movie. It’s a movie, actually) focuses on Wataru, who I actually meet in the game, heh. (And yes, I met Mitsuru, too. And from the cover art of the movie, it’s obvious he’s a party member constant companion to Wataru. That happens a lot, actually. I think all of Tatsuya’s guest party members are Wataru’s permanent quest-companions.) So it’s not like I’ll be watching the game or anything. I waaaaaant tooo waaaaatch thiiiis…TT^TT
My fantasy adventure is turning into a fantasy love drama.

Heliae, Halinne, and Avien, working on their respective parts, turn to each other and snicker.
I’m not stopping until I reach 25k at least, dammit. Now keep giving me interesting scenes, you lazy characters.
I already gave you two, Heliae protests.
Keep ‘em coming! grumbles DestinZfaith, frazzled at the nearing deadline.
Aliadne just snorts, ignoring DestinZfaith’s withering glare in her direction.
Element mages have only a tenuous alignment to either Light or Dark, and for that reason, element mages are rare. A metalmage should not be taken as a subset of element mages; a metalmage is a mage specializing in the element of Metal, as a flamemage is a mage specializing in Fire. But element mages specialize in all the elements.
Yea, I know, confuses me too. I’ll have to work on this one. And yes, I cheated and put these little explanatory things in Nanonovel. >_>;;
Most are aligned to Light, due almost exclusively to the Dark Purge some centuries ago by the fanatical (unnamed) King of Kalarion, back when the current land of Kalarion, Resarai, Ilarisane, and Ko Gae, and certain other minor bordering lands was one empire. After the revolt that led to this (unnamed) King’s death and the end of the Purge, the lands split into what they are now: Ilarisane broke off following the lead of a noble family that later became the monarchy; Ko Gae broke off with the assent of its people, and they elected their local revolutionary leader to become their Emperor, which later became the ruling family. What remained of Kalarion became a republic, and Reserai…er. I’m not sure about Reserai.
Most recently, the monarchy of Ilarisane was taken over by the Council of the Jaris, which instated itself as the ruling class. The last sixteen or so years have been devoted to finding the missing heir (who disappeared before she could be executed), and Aliadne of the Royal Guard, who was rumoured to have carried her off.
Even now, the effects of the Purge can be felt, as there are hardly any of those aligned to the Dark around. And if there are, an uncomfortable lot tend to hide their alignment, either by personal self-shame, or persuaded by their family/elders. The Dark, also, is not as kind toward those aligned to it, perhaps because of its affinity with anti. A good amount of those aligned to the Dark, even before the Purge, tend to go insane, or are swallowed by their power and die. For this reason, the lifespans of those aligned to the Dark are a bit less than the average lifespan of those aligned to the Light.
Just for my reference (and for you to laugh if I get it ridiculously wrong. ;p)
Heliae, at first glance, seems only to be carrying a ninjaken (held deceptively in a katana/overlong sheath); Avien, by contrast, in a glance looks to be empty-handed. Neither of them have named weapons. Avien’s usually carrying more than you suspect. (But really, it’s because I’m lazy and can’t find any more “sneaky” weapons.)
Both Aliadne’s weapons are visible; Heartweeper, her ceremonial sword at her side, and Rampant-flying Cacophony, her polearm on her back. She carries a(n emergency) dagger in a hidden sheath, close-range, or goes bare-handed.
Mavyn and Halinne carry their named weapons, a metal bo and a bow (and arrows) repectively, in sight, but hide their secondary weapons. In Mavyn’s case, the bo is to keep enemies away, and the butterfly knife in her sleeve is if they get too close or if her bo is knocked away. Her primary focus, as a metalmage, is to either strengthen the metal in her weapon(s), or to keep them far enough so that they can’t hit her while she prepares and slings her spells. Halinne carries a far-range weapon primarily to assist and back up Avien. She declines to use her bow in mid- to close-range combat. She carries a pair of sai, mostly for defensive purpose, while she prepares her spells.
oh yea, that was it. I needed a pure mage(s). All of my characters right now are Warriors. D’oh.
I still need wielders for a crossbow, a Quan Dao, and a katana, though. And someone who hasn’t been named yet wields something that can be shot, but I’m leery about using guns. Maybe he’s the crossbow user?
And Tom’s weapon needs to be changed. His current weapon is a greatsword, but that doesn’t fit. Like, at all. =_=;;
I generally try to give all of the characters secondary, (closer-combat) weapons. There are only so many, though, and they can’t all think to carry multiple weapons. (Currently, only Aliadne, Heliae, Avien, and the two mages carry them.) I think I’m going to need to rely on a “staple” secondary weapon: non-specialized weapons used in an emergency. Hrrm.
Okey, so I have this folder on Desktop labelled “Nanonovel 07″ for easy access. Inside the folder are Microsoft Word documents titled with numbers, a Notepad doc labelled “Table of Contents,” and a Word Doc codenamed “S.A.L.L.Y.” (giftfic to those who figure out why!)
The numbered Word Docs were originally so I could keep daily progress of my Word Counts. That fell apart when I stopped counting daily; because I’d skip days, and soon I got used to counting by the “bigger picture” anyway. But I still write in different files to make it easier on me: I tend to write ~1k a segment (because of my fanfic tendencies, heh). The Table of Contents is a summary of each segment, so I can keep track of what went on, and which segment goes where, without opening all of the individual Word docs. S.A.L.L.Y is where I paste all the text from the Word Docs, for a total Word Count.
Oooh! Shiny!! ~smacks self~
Yea, yesterday I had to fall on pr0n for word-boosting. I told myself after the first time I wouldn’t write any more smut. -_-;; No more smut, you damn promiscuous characters! Give me some interesting scenes!
…I can’t help but feel I’m forgetting something. I think it had something to do with Mavyn. And…42? ~scratches head~
And after adding the eighth element, I managed to figure out some element configurations. One’s the standard circle, one’s a figure eight (matches the eight elements, haha), and one looks something like an hourglass. o_O;;
Here.
This site’s design just blew me away. It’s..it’s…beautiful. Staggeringly so. Orgasmically so.
~swoon~
Heliae, please make up your mind about your character/personality. I can’t have you bouncing around all over the place.
