Nier (PS3)

I WAS ABSOLUTELY INFURIATED WITH THIS GAME UNTIL I FIGURED OUT I HAD TO CLIMB THE LITTLE PATIO THINGAMABOBBER OF THE BUILDING TO HIT THE PRE-BOSS’S MAGICAL DIE POINT.

…Yeah. >(

But now that I am past that, it’s pretty fun! :V

Also, apparently this game had an M rating and the cashier asked my age + ID at the register. xD I hadn’t noticed the rating because I almost never look at them, heh.

fail moments in video games

January 31st, 2010 No comments

So in KH:BbS I was stuck in Cinderella world for a truly massive amount of time because I had no idea how to get to the next area. Then I watched a video walkthrough for that part and wanted to shoot myself in the brain. The path to the next stage was literally two steps away but I just never noticed. :||||

Bayonetta

Wow, just because Bayonetta shows skin and her stiletto heels are guns, she’s “shallow” and “lacks character.” How would you even know? You haven’t played the godsdamn game.

I originally had “Night Butterfly” written on it, but I thought it made her sound…eh. o_o

Also, not sure if the light on the right side really works. Thoughts?

brain-death IMMINENT

October 6th, 2009 No comments

Oh man, my brain is melting so hard. DDDDx

ETA: I really hate that citations can’t be compiled into one master list where you just omit what info you don’t have. Instead there are 23487654267829 rules and you have to look them up individually. x(

ETA2: One of the things I love to do as Sophitia is deliver a kick to the balls as finishing blow. It’s even more hilarious when I win by doing that over and over…and over again.

ETA3: DAMMIT BROKE MY 40 STRAIGHT WINS RECORD

ETA4: I’m so bad with Taki now; haven’t played as her for a while.

ETA5: Have I mentioned how hot Zasalamel’s voice is? <333

ETA6: I’m not even doing a proper paper. This is just an annotated bibliography. With a measly SIX sources. ;;;;_;;;; And I can’t even do that I’m so screwed.

ETA7: Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny is my anti-drug. Unfortunately it is also my anti-homework drug.

ETA8: …I am going to kill myself. WHICH IS IT?! CITATIONS!!!!! ~shakes fist~

FF13 TGS 09 trailer

September 29th, 2009 3 comments

Kiss! It’s a kiss!

/immature

In other news, Lightning’s skirt is shorter than even Ashe’s. @_@

ETA: You know the one thing I was thinking while watching this trailer? The eyes are too big. |D Jac is being infected with “carrying realism like a dead weight syndrome”? Hurry with an antidote!

ETA2: If Sazh’s summon is Surt, that would be pretty awesome, since Lightning-Odin: King of the Gods <==> Sazh-Surt: Leader of those who oppose the Aesir (in Ragnorak). If all characters had that kind of thing going with another character, that would be awesome. :D Snow’s a little tricky, though, since his summon is Shiva, who is god of an opposite pair (destruction + rebirth) ._. But Shiva the summon is made of two entities (black+white) so idek how an opposite would work or if se’s meant to be hir own opposite within the summon itself or something like that. Or someone has a summon of Kali (Shiva’s wife), but probably not. xD

Although I have a feeling Sazh has Surt because according to Wikipedia his name means “the black one” in Old Norse, which is meh.

ETA3: Also, in regards to the summons, the Ragnorak thing is apt, from what we’ve seen of the trailer. The Gestalt summons all reflect this (Shiva – destruction, Odin – foretold Ragnorak, Surt – battled the gods). But this means that the developers really thought hard about the summons and the mythology the summons come from, which may or may not be the case.

This game looks pretty awesome. o_o (Although the girl’s outfit does look pretty goofy. As usual.)

Speaking of Square video games, has The Last Remnant‘s 360 timed exclusivity run out yet? @_@ …OHWAIT.

FF13

Decemberrrrr 2009~~~~

See, getting both a JP and a NA version of this will actually be a bit more worth it, because they will be (reportedly) tweaking expressions and stuff to fit more with the NA dialogue, so dubs, at the very least, will sound less forced. I’d still prefer to have Sakamoto Maaya, though. :( And I mean, Lightning’s dub VA sounded pretty nice, but in one of the trailers, I thought her “I can barely take care of myself…let alone some kid” was a bit forced. :( But, like Dissidia, there’s no way I’d be able to read the menus and non-voiced scenes (not to mention I wouldn’t have any idea what they are saying anyway) so idek. OTL

Dissidia

September 7th, 2009 No comments

Upon playing it more, the story isn’t that bad, just a bit preachy at times.

Bartz=♥

Ultimecia’s VA sounds like she’s doing what Yuna’s did in FFX (PAUSE AWKWARDLY IN THE MIDDLE OF EVERY SENTENCE), except…on purpose. WHY. @_@ As in, Yuna’s VA did it because she needed to match mouth movement, but she at least made an effort to make it sound like it (pauses and all) was all part of a sentence rather than retarded fragments. Ultimecia’s VA will speak her lines as if there actually is a period in the middle of a sentence. Whut.

Firion’s voice is hot.

A couple Most of the VAs (particularly Squall) tend to overact. I mean, do you really need to emphasize that word that much?! (Squall is a little different: what he does is deepen his voice so much it’s obviously fake.) @_@ And you can tell that they’re clearly recording individually (as opposed to Japan, where all the seiyuus for a particular scene are gathered together at once) because occasionally they use the wrong emphases. It’s easier to record individually for a dub, I suppose, but Cloud had a line where’s he says, “Where’s the kid?” It sounded very accusing, as if he’s demanding of a villain where his kidnapped friend is. The question was actually a curious one asked of a friend about the whereabouts of another friend. That line just sounded so off, and I feel like it probably could have been rectified if the actors were more aware of their scenes. :/

Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny

September 5th, 2009 No comments

The high level of character customization in this game was overhypped, unfortunately.

1. You can’t make custom outfits for already existing characters. (Though I suppose you can always make them manually, I suppose)

2. There are still portions of clothing pieces that you cannot change the color of.

I interpreted Joystiq’s report as “everything is customizable” so really, it is my fault for expecting that. But SC:BD really didn’t “up the ante.” Despite the new pieces avilable, it’s more or less the same as SC4. Less, actually, because there are less slots. Although joystiq’s wording really implies that it “up[s] the ante” from SC3, so that’s just literary comprehension fail on my part. |||OTL

But creating characters is still very enjoyable, and has already leeched a lot of my time on this game. :p I love Soulcalibur character creation, can you tell? Although coming up with names is still GRAURH Dx

new Birth by Sleep trailer

September 5th, 2009 No comments

trailer (link goes to joystiq)

It’s official. I am officially in love with Aqua. *A*♥♥♥ Also sounds a bit like Lightning, who I first thought was voiced by Toyoguchi Megumi. If I’m not wrong, I guess I know where Toyoguchi went, |D Am now considering getting two versions of this game (WRY, SELF, WRYYY) because of Aqua’s smexy voice. :[♥♥♥ I’m torn because some Japanese dubs for the Dizney voices are a little weird-sounding, but I really love Aqua’s voice. :[♥♥♥

Went to GameStop again today. Still didn’t see Soulcalibur: BD on the abysmally small “New Releases” rack, so I went to the cashier to ask about it. She liek, couldn’t find it so she went to who I think is the Manager, and the Manager asks me if I’m the one who called in and I said I wasn’t.

So they gave me the last copy, which had been reserved (by someone else). C:

On one hand, I feel kind of bad for taking it, because dude it was reserved and it was the last one in the store.

On the other hand, MWUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. >DDDDDDD

I didn’t think the game would go that quickly, though. @_@ I’d assumed the reason I couldn’t find a box was because GS hadn’t received the shipment, but it turns out SC:BD is just popular. |D

Dissidia:FF

September 3rd, 2009 No comments

I wrote out this comment to post on joystiq’s Dissidia review, but I forgot I don’t remember my password or anything. :( Less wordy than I would have been if I were writing on here, but it still got pretty long. ._. The Story mode really is awful, guys. But hey, as some joystiq commenters pointed out, it’s a fighting game, not like an RPG or anything. Plus I’m still going through everyone’s first stages and I think there are more after I clear them? My point is I may simply have not spent enough time with the story yet

But why would you choose Cloud to begin with? If you’re going by difficulty, at least choose Cecil. I mean, if you’ve seen Compilation (Crisis Core in particular) works, you’re so familiar with his basic movements that it gets bland watching him after a while. To sorta contradict myself, I actually unexpectedly had a blast with Cloud, because of Zack. :<

The big draw for me was actually using characters from FFs I've never played before, because as awesome as it is to see all Tidus' limit breaks used like that, I HAVE seen all of those moves about half a million times while trying to unlock his other Overdrives. So Tidus, for me, gets old much more quickly than, say, Firion does.

I hated the story, too. It was so preachy and bludgeons you over the head with it. They're more like character journeys rather than a plot. But I agree with [---], it is somewhat cultural; the writers of the story weren't arbitrarily pulling lame things out of their asses, rather, things like this are so commonplace in Japanese media that it was easy for them to write. I don't like it much, though, I feel it lacks a bit of individuality. Some of the characters are so cliche, you don't even want to touch their games. :( But the franchise is ten years old, the themes of the games can be forgiven for being cliche-ish, I think, since they were either setting the trend or following a trend for profit. As a fan of FFX, I liked Tidus's story, actually, I felt it actually had direction and wasn't just regurgitating generic themes. Tidus's father issues are by no means unique in society, but Tidus and Jecht gave their story personality by the way they react to each other. I also like the embellishments: Tidus wearing Yuna's necklace as an earring, Tidus wanting to yell. It was great, although I might just be feeling that because the first stories I played were so lackluster. :(
