SO LONG AND THANKS FOR ALL THE FISH

Was just re-reading some of NanoNovel 08 (just the last bit or so) and I realized something.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE FUCK THIS IS.

rofllllllll this is kind of epic. I was planning on continuing until it’s done, but maybe I should do some editting first, just to see where I am, before going on.

ETA: To self- Notes to keep in mind:

• do Avien’s eyes change color? Groune observes an eye-color change on pg 13. Probably something I used to increase word count, but still. Could it be the way Groune senses magic?
• pg 14, 15 – here’s evidence that I was using the elemental magic systems I described for Nano 07. But is this a good idea? Avien is, for better or worse, a water priestess, which makes things complicated if I’m to use that system. OH HEY WAIT. Avien could consider water magic that in the beginning, but Soryuu shows her how not to fight it? ETA: Er, nvm. pg 102, I’d been using this system all along, it was just that line at the very beginning, before she meets Asteth
• Ren is learnéd. I think I keep forgetting that. ._.
• pg 18 – “Hydlin” is a name.
• If I were making chapters, the break at pg 24 marks the end of Chapter One.
• pg 37 – should I remove the second kiss? The rhythm of this entire scene feels…off, somehow. Should just get rid of the melodrama >_>
• Oh, geez. “Fluffy McFluff Fluff,” lol
• pg 74 – Asteth is a bit OOC. Is it simply that he thinks of himself differently than he acts? But even so, it’s too different. Will probably confuse readers.
• …I believe pg 91 ends Chapter Two.
• …I think Avien has passed out in every fight she’s been in. :|
• “caliber” has been used too many times

ETA2: OH HAY THAR AVIEN. This entrance was more dramatic than I’d initially envisioned it. Sephine may not have room to dislike Avien, lol. Avien was being like. teasing. I think her interactions with Asteth and Groune have opened up her character a little more… |D;;

I talked about one of the groups getting a fourth member in my English class journal, but no one’s coming along at the moment. ô_ô Or maybe something just needs to happen to Ren’s party. All they’ve been doing is fighting (each other) and walking.

ETA: The “serpent-like creature” thing is called (for now) a “Ducklinert Duck.” ~nodnod~

ETA2: So. unbalanced. Avien and co. definitely has more screentime. 8D;;;

I have only gotten 8,675. I haven’t worked on my NaNo in a week, and though I know I failed I don’t feel like it. I have won something much more important than a word count contest. I have discovered how much of a life I do have. How much people do need me. How much good I do on a daily basis.—lj_nanowrimo

…This is a really dangerous fight. ;_; Avien gets a lot of injuries. I wonder how they’re going to deal with this?

On the other hand, this is a great opportunity to flesh out Groune and his issues with her. :DD (He’s a doctor)

And it’s hilarious how this fight is almost all Avien. Asteth and Groune just sorta…watch. |D;;;;

I swear, this novel is made of 40% fight scenes, 40% characters just thinking and reflecting. Avien and co just got into another fight, geez. |||OTL I don’t even think it’s all that important, just me throwing potatoes at them because I was stagnating…=_=;;

Well look at this way at least I won’t have to worry about taking out pr0n, not that I finished last year but that’s beside the point

ETA: How does a giant serpent-like creature fight? WITH MAGICAL POWERS, OF COURSE. 8| it’s ttly sekritly a dragon.

ETA2: In the past two hours, I have only written ~200 words. :|

Nanowrimo’s word count validator chopped off ~200 words off my Pages word count. ;_; So I have to write 50,200 words by Pages’ word count to win. Nooo problemmmmmmmmm. I’m glad Chris told us, though. It would’ve sucked to have thought I won but didn’t. |D Not that I’d really planned to validate at the last minute, but it would’ve been upsetting when actually going to validate, y’know? |D

ETA: I’d been having weird thoughts yesterday about the word “magic”. It has certain connotations, see, and really it just means “the unknown.” Turning on a light switch is its own magic. I’d been wondering if there was a way I could go through the entire novel without ever mentioning the word “magic.” ._.

ETA2: I MISS A DAY OF WRITING AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENS OH EM GEEEEEEEE (Yesterday I was working on my paper, which is why I’d been struggling to get to 30k the day before, to be on task. But now I’m not ahead anymore, which means I’m in danger of falling behind, and I’m afraid once I fall behind I’ll enter fail mentality: “oh I’m so behind wryyyy do I botherrrr” :’(((( Jac is deathly afraid of fail mentality because it has pervaded her lyfeeee for so longgggg)

Can anyone suggest water sounds that don’t have anything to do with waterfalls or dripping? I keep coming back to water because Soryuu is a water dragon, but I’m running out of sounds to suggest his metaphysical presence. |D;;;

…I think she turned herself into a god(dess). :| Oh crap this really is leading into the rebuilding of Cristae, isn’t it? I wanted to avoid that because it was kind of cliche; leaving the destroyed world destroyed is liek not magical-fixy. =___= Will have to find a way around that….

This entire scene/series of scenes is going to have to be cut in the end, sigh. |||OTL

Or if I’m not going to cut it, I’m going to have to figure out why Avien would invoke the Soryuu Sentoki Kai (I TOLD YOU IT WAS RETARDED RANDOM JAPANESE); it’s not something she would normally do, especially against a wimpy opponent. :/

ETA2: So. many. fight scenes. Give me a break guys I'm almost out ;_; Whenever I get stuck, I make a fight? ffffffffff ('Cept in Avien's case the last time because those fights against the soldiers were necessary and I was actually struggling through those.) But this is kind of ridiculoussssssss

ETA3: So many colloquiallisms I'm going to have to change. |||OTL

ETA4: Instead of using pron for padding, I use FIGHT SCENES! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA Though mostly this is because no character has a love interest pfffffffffft.

ETA5: …When had my English/PPP classes been affecting my novel?

~sigh~ From the beginning, I suppose, from the very moment I introduced Sephine. But man. There’s no end to stuff I have to cut out in Editting if I want this to be liek a real novel.

ETA6: CRITICAL QUESTION. Who wins in a fight, Avien or Hal? 8D;;;

ETA6.2: Ren says Avien. But he’s biased; Sephine would say Hal, ffffff. The easy solution would have them just not face off. But that’s boringgggg

ETA6.3: If I keep making similarities between Avien and Hal, they’re going to randomly end up as twins/clones later on. :| The problem is that Avien never really had a personality to begin with, and now Hal is liek stoic so Hal keeps ending up resembling Avien, orz. That’s part of the reason I need them to face off, regardless of whether or not this face-off actually appears in the novel. When I make them fight, I necessarily have to create differences, and in those fighting differences, others will follow.

…Or something.

ETA6.4: AHA.

It was as if her force and speed existed in a zero-sum relationship; speed going down while power went up, or speed going up while power went up.

Hal self-imposes this restriction because of her emo past; if/when she faces Avien, she gets serious and doesn’t do this. But fighting Ren (and anyone else not as skilled), she does this. (Sorta like Kenshin’s reverse blade from Rurouni Kenshin. Not that I’ve actually ever watched/read that but hey, good metaphor is good metaphor neeeee? |D

ETA6.5: OH SO THAT’S WHAT IT IS. Avien and Hal are foils; Avien was repressed from childhood and on meeting Ren gets freer; Hal was someone who had (relatively) free reign in the beginning but limits and restricts herself afterward.
